DONALSONVILLE

Donalsonville – Incorporated in 1897, Donalsonville is governed by a Council – Manager form of Government. As of the 2000 census, the population of Donalsonville is 2,796. The city is divided into two (2) districts with three council persons elected from each district. The Mayor is elected at large. The Mayor moderates the City Council Meetings and is called on to break 3-3 ties in voting. Elections are held every four years.

The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor and Council and serves as the Chief Executive Manager of the City. At the present time Donalsonville has 45 employees.

The City Council meets regularly on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 127 East Second Street, Donalsonville, Georgia 39845.

IRON CITY

Incorporated in 1900 as Brooklyn, Georgia, the Town of Iron City was reincorporated in 1908. As of the 2000 census, the population of Iron City is 321.The town is divided into four (4) districts with one council person elected from each district. The Mayor is elected at large. Elections are held every four years.

The Council meets regularly on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

SEMINOLE COUNTY

Seminole County – Seminole County was created from portions of Decatur and Early Counties by the Georgia General Assembly and the voters of Georgia during 1920, and became official on January 1, 1921. The county courthouse in Donalsonville was constructed in 1922 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As of the 2000 census, the population of Seminole County is 9,369.

Seminole County is divided into five (5) voting districts with one commissioner elected from each district. The Chairman and Vice-chairman are elected from the five member Board of Commissioners. Elections are held every four years.

The county’s administrative staff and day-to-day operations are managed by a County Manager who works closely with the Board of Commissioners to ensure effective communication is maintained between the Board and the staff.

The Board of Commissioners meets regularly on the 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the courthouse. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

   NEWS AND EVENTS

» RAFFLE!
- The Chamber is raffling off a great fish package!  It consists of a two burner fish cooker, a bottle of propane, peanut oil, and a fish scaler.  This will be given away as a package and the tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.  Tickets are available from any chamber board member or you can come by the chamber and purchase your tickets.  The drawing will be held at the annual dinner on February 23.  You do not have to be present to win, although we encourage you to come!


» Agricultural Person of the Year 2011
- Mr. Dusty Smith, Ag teacher at Seminole County High School, has been chosen as our Agricultural Person of the Year for the year 2011.  Congratulations,  Dusty for a job well done!


» Citizen of the Year Nomination Deadline
- The deadline for nominating a candidate for citizen of the year is Friday, February 10.  If you need a form, please come by or call the chamber.


» Seminole County Hog Show
- The Seminole County Hog Show will be held at the Agricultural barn on Saturday,  February 18th, starting at 1:00 p.m.  Please make an effort to attend and support our young people as they show off their hard work.


» Annual Dinner
- The Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner will be held February 23, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 and are available at the chamber office. You may also purchase a reserved table that will seat eight.  Entertainment will be provided by Tony and Joy Buczek.  Please make your plans to attend.


» Lake Seminole Festival
- The annual Lake Seminole Festival will be held at Spring Creek Park Resort on Saturday, March 31, on beautiful Lake Seminole.  Events will include a panfish tournament, blind canoe race, entertainment from our own Green Machine Concert Band and many favorites.  There will be food vendors and numerous arts and crafts.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Seminole County Band Program through Boosters.  Many prizes will be given away and a 50/50 raffle.  Please come out and help support our band and our school.
